Graduate Preparation Program
You are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED to attend the program if:
you are interested in obtaining a Teaching Assistant position at UCSC for the upcoming academic year, AND
you have not passed the IELTS or TOEFL exam with a qualifying score (8 overall for the IELTS; or 26 for the TOEFL sub-score in Speaking).
你想当助教的话就必须得参加，好像是上课了还得考过一个考试才行，基本上就是一个口语课

Grad Prep Program： 针对研究生的，就是你口语不够又要做TA的话就要去 完了可以不用参加一个什么考试。

ISSS
Graduate Student
- Consider joining us early for Math Camp or the Graduate Preparation Program! These programs are designed to provide you with a strong academic foundation to begin your education at UCSC.
- Decide your start date: Math Camp, Grad Prep Program, or Fall.*
- Formally accept your offer of admission. This process is done through the MyUCSC portal and must be completed by the deadline given in your offer of admission. You will need your CruzID Gold Password to log in to the portal. Please see this site if you need help creating your Gold Password.
- Submit I-20/DS-2019 Request through the UCSC Visa Document Request Tool (VDRT). You will receive further instructions and the URL for the VDRT from istudent@ucsc.edu after you have accepted your offer of admission.
If you are transferring your record from another U.S. school, show this page to your current advisor. Our school does not use a SEVIS Transfer-In Form.
Once you’ve submitted your request, ISSS will issue the appropriate document and mail it to you in 10-15 days. If you have any questions on this process, please contact istudent@ucsc.edu.
*Summer Session 2. Some academic programs encourage graduate students to begin their program during the summer. Please check with your department. On a case-by-case basis, ISSS will issue I-20s/DS-2019s with a Summer Session 2 start date. Note you will need to show additional proof of funding for summer expenses. If you will start in Summer Session 2, you must submit all documentation earlier.

Additionally, you are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED to attend the program if:

you have not passed the IELTS or TOEFL exam with a qualifying score (26 for the iBT sub-score in Speaking; or 8 for the IELTS subscore in Speaking).
3.Housing and Meals (deadline for registration or cancellation: July 21, 2017)

费用
The cost for each student is $850 (subject to change). Cost details can be seen below.
Included in program cost:
Classroom instruction (75 classroom hours)
Course materials (required textbooks, listening materials, poster board)
On-campus activities (e.g., social mixer, round table with current TAs)
Orientation (includes lunch)
Poster Fair with refreshments
Academic report for each student for their respective academic department (to replace Versant test)
Not included – to be paid by student:
Housing and meals
Transportation
Any additional living costs
Optional excursions
